Baptism is a public expression of the faith we have in Jesus Christ. If you've given your life to Jesus, your next step is to take your faith public through baptism. It allows you to publicly declare that Christ has saved you, is changing you, and that you want everyone to know!
We follow not only the instruction of Jesus in this, but His example as well.
“When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’”
